Bridgeport, Conn. – Jan. 15, 2013 – The Fairfield County Community Foundation has awarded a $30,000 grant to the Weisman AmeriCares Free Clinic of Bridgeport. The grant, which supports operating expenses, will help the clinic provide free, high-quality health care to low-income patients without health insurance. Patients receive primary and specialty care, including medications, lab work and diagnostic testing, at no cost.

“We are thrilled to receive a competitive grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation,” said AmeriCares Free Clinics Executive Director Karen Gottlieb. “This grant will help us provide the best possible care for the more than 600 Bridgeport area residents who rely on our clinic for medical care.”

The foundation is a longtime supporter of AmeriCares Free Clinics, donating more than $100,000 to the program to date. Since opening in 2003, the Bridgeport clinic has provided the local community with nearly $10 million in free medical care.
