Stamford, Conn. –June 16, 2025 –Americares recently celebrated a major milestone with the grand opening of the new Bob Macauley Americares Free Clinic in Norwalk, Conn.
With five exam rooms, the newly renovated medical office is more than double of the size of the clinic’s former home and underscores Americares longstanding commitment to meet the health needs of low-income area residents without health insurance. Over the years, more than 11,000 residents of greater Norwalk have received medical exams and treatment at the clinic, including medications, lab testing and diagnostic services — all at no cost.
“The clinic is a lifeline,” said Americares Free Clinics Executive Director Karen Gottlieb. “Without our services many community members would rely on emergency rooms for primary care services — or worse — delay care until they have an emergency.”
Named for Americares founder and longtime chairman Bob Macauley, the clinic has been providing quality care since 1994. The new location at 10 Mott Ave. is just a few miles from the original Norwalk clinic site.
“Today, we open a beautiful, new clinic, but the mission remains the same: to provide quality health care where it’s needed most—in a setting where every person is treated with dignity and respect,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires said at the June 6 grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting. “The Americares Free Clinics are part of Americares commitment to good health across the country and around the world. Whether in Connecticut, Colombia or Ukraine, Americares delivers health programs and services to people in need.”
Over the years, the four Americares Free Clinics in Connecticut, where Americares is based, have provided health care services valued at $165 million to our hardworking neighbors. Across the United States, Americares supports nearly 1,000 free clinics and community health centers with donated medicine and medical supplies, education, operational support, funding, training and innovations in health care delivery.
The Norwalk clinic operates with broad support from the community and many longtime supporters attended the ribbon cutting, including George and Carol Bauer, Dr. Jason Orlinick of Nuvance Health, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling and Connecticut State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff. Both Norwalk Hospital, part of the Nuvance Health hospital system, and Carol Bauer, who served as chair of the Norwalk Hospital board when the clinic first opened and was instrumental in building the partnership between Americares and the hospital, were recognized for their longtime support at the ceremony.
