Mobile Food Pantry Coming to Bridgeport Clinic

  • January 31, 2019

Stamford, Conn. – Jan. 31, 2019 – The Fred Weisman Americares Free Clinic of Bridgeport is partnering with the Connecticut Food Bank to deliver fresh and nutritious food for families in need throughout the greater Bridgeport area.

The Weisman clinic, located at 115 Highland Avenue, will host a free mobile pantry from 11 a.m. until noon on the second Saturday of each month beginning Saturday, Feb. 9. The pantry is open to all in need of food assistance.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this important service to our patients and residents of the surrounding community,” said Clinic Director Jennifer DaSilva. “This partnership will ensure Bridgeport residents have access to fresh and nutritious food no matter what difficulties they may be facing.”

The Connecticut Food Bank Mobile Pantry helps address food deserts and transportation barriers that make it difficult for people with limited resources to access the adequate nutrition they need. The program serves individuals, including some in remote locations, and provides items they may not find in a traditional community pantry, including fresh fruit and vegetables and frozen foods. The program’s “no questions asked” philosophy and farmers’ market feel allows ease of use for guests.

“The partnership with the Fred Weisman Americares Free Clinic is a welcome addition for our Mobile Pantry service,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. “We emphasize access to nutritious foods as a strategy to manage and improve health outcomes. By linking our Mobile Pantry with the clinic, we are linking two services that are vital for people in need.”

The Weisman clinic provides quality primary health care to 500 low-income, uninsured patients from the greater Bridgeport area. Patients receive comprehensive health services including lab work and diagnostic testing at no cost.

Americares operates the largest free clinic network in the state, serving 3,000 low-income, uninsured Fairfield County residents. In addition to Bridgeport, Americares has clinics in Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford.

The clinic driveway entrance is at 112 Sanford Avenue. For more information call the clinic at (203) 333-9175.
