STAMFORD, Conn. – February 11, 2015 – Janet Yon of Weston has been named director of the Weisman AmeriCares Free Clinic of Bridgeport. In her new role, Yon, a registered nurse, is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the clinic, which provides free primary care services to 600 low-income uninsured patients from the greater Bridgeport area. Staffed by volunteer nurses and physicians, the clinic is located in the Wheeler Community Center at 115 Highland Avenue in Bridgeport.

“We are excited to welcome Janet to our program. She comes with terrific skills and connections to the community,” said AmeriCares Free Clinics Executive Director Karen Gottlieb. “She will be essential in helping us increase services for low-income uninsured patients.”

Yon was previously an administrative manager with Bridgeport Hospital and a nurse manager for a private practice in Westport. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing, graduating summa cum laude from Cleveland State University, and is pursuing a master’s degree in nursing and patient care services administration at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems management from the University of Maryland, European Division in England.

Yon said she is looking forward to once again providing direct patient care.

“AmeriCares gives me the opportunity to provide health care to the people most in need,” she said. “It brings me back to the roots of nursing and what I was trained to do.”

AmeriCares operates the largest free clinic network in the state with four locations serving 3,000 Fairfield County residents. In addition to Bridgeport, AmeriCares also operates clinics in Danbury, Norwalk and Stamford.
