Fairfield County Community Foundation Awards Grant to Weisman Clinic
CONTACT: Donna Porstner STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield County Community Foundation has awarded a $20,000 competitive grant to the Weisman AmeriCares Free Clinic of Bridgeport to help defray general operating expenses. The clinic, located at 115 Highland Avenue, provides quality health care to low-income, uninsured residents of Bridgeport and surrounding communities. Patients receive primary and specialty care including medications, lab work and diagnostic testing all at no cost. “The Fairfield County Community Foundation staff works hard each year to understand exactly what our program needs are,” AmeriCares Free Clinics Executive Director Karen Gottlieb said. “They invested hours at our Bridgeport clinic and their grant will help our program grow.” Since 1994, the AmeriCares Free Clinics have delivered more than $35 million worth of medical services to our neighbors in need. Since the clinics are almost entirely privately funded, they rely on donations from supporters like the Fairfield County Community Foundation to provide free, quality medical care to the uninsured. The Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds and contribute to existing funds. The Foundation provides philanthropic advisory services, and develops and leads initiatives to tackle critical community issues. It is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards for community foundations. The Foundation has awarded over $120 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond. |
