AmeriCares Free Clinics Receive Grant From the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation

Stamford, CT—The Weisman Clinic, an AmeriCares Free Clinic has received a grant for $10,638 from the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation in support of the health care facility. The grant will be used to help fund the costs associated with the increased patient capacity at the newly opened, expanded clinic.

The Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation promotes the growth of philanthropy to strengthen local communities in the region and focuses on education and youth development, economic opportunity, health and human services, arts and culture, the environment and strengthening local nonprofit organizations.

Since 1994, the AmeriCares Free Clinics has delivered nearly $17 million worth of medical services to 15,000 low-income uninsured patients. To better meet the needs of their communities, the program opened a permanent clinic in Bridgeport, after operating a mobile medical unit for the last three years. The Weisman Clinic features five examination rooms, and as a result will be able to expand its operations.

AmeriCares Free Clinics accepts no federal government funding. Rather, they operate with private donations and volunteer services. With more than 350 volunteers and partnerships like this, AmeriCares Free Clinics is able to provide quality health care to the uninsured who might otherwise never receive care or treatments. AmeriCares Free Clinics also operate health clinics in Norwalk and Danbury.
