New Hours For Boehringer Ingelheim-AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach Program

STAMFORD, CT, February 27, 2007 - The Boehringer Ingelheim-AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach Program, which serves uninsured residents of the Greater Danbury area, is expanding its service in New Milford next month.
An extension of the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury, this mobile medical unit is currently stationed at the Richmond Center, 40 Main Street in New Milford, every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.  Effective March 5, it will also be there every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.

"AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach provides such a necessary high quality service to our community," says New Milford Mayor Patricia Murphy.  "I'm absolutely thrilled that they can offer another opportunity for uninsured people in New Milford to receive much needed medical care."

The mobile clinic, which is staffed by volunteer physicians, is seeking additional doctors, specialists and nurses for the weekly service.  Volunteers are asked to donate a minimum of 10 hours per year.

Due to the increased demand in New Milford, the mobile unit will be moved from the Brookfield Community Center, where the clinic had been stationed every Monday from 4:30 to 7 p.m.  The mobile unit will continue to serve patients in Bethel, where it is stationed every Monday from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Stony Hill Fire House at 59 Stony Hill Road.

The Boehringer Ingelheim-AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach Program offers free health care to qualified patients ages 18 and older who are uninsured and lack the financial resources for treatment.  This includes outpatient care, treatment of episodic and chronic illness, evaluation of minor injuries, prescription medicines, and referrals for laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic exams, as well as referrals to social services, other agencies and medical specialists if necessary.

The Boehringer Ingelheim-AmeriCares Free Clinics Outreach Program was launched in late 2005, serving the communities of Bethel, Brookfield and New Milford.  It is funded by a $750,000 grant from The Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation (BICF), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit subsidiary of the Ridgefield-based Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation.

AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury has provided health care services valued at more than $7 million to more than 5,500 residents of the Greater Danbury area over the past 10 years.  These services are made possible by the generous work of more than 170 volunteer doctors, nurses, non-medical volunteers and others, including specialists who see patients in their private offices at no charge.  Through the work of volunteers and the support of local organizations, the clinic is able to provide services to patients who cannot afford much-needed medical care because they lack health insurance.

AmeriCares Free Clinics has three locations in Fairfield County, serving the communities of Greater Danbury, Norwalk and Bridgeport.   For more information, to schedule an appointment, or to learn how to volunteer your services, call the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury at 203-748-6188 or call 1-888-26CARES (1-888-262-2737).
