Stamford, CT, July 6, 2007 - AmeriCares Free Clinics has received a $20,000 grant from The RGK Foundation that will support the general operations of the Norwalk, Danbury and Bridgeport clinics.  The grant will partially be used to cover costs of patient medications, the recruitment of additional volunteers and malpractice insurance for the volunteer medical staff.

The RGK Foundation, based in Austin, TX, is an independent organization that was founded in 1966 by Ronya and George Kozmetsky.  The foundation focuses on education, community outreach and health and medicine programs.  Within the health and medicine area, the foundation supports programs that help to provide access to health care, promote the health and well-being of children and families, as well as support medical research programs.

Since 1994, the AmeriCares Free Clinics has delivered nearly $17 million worth of medical services to 15,000 uninsured patients.  To better meet the needs of their communities, the Danbury and Norwalk clinics have expanded their facilities, and the mobile unit that is now operating in Bridgeport will be replaced by a permanent clinic with five exam rooms, before the end of the summer.

AmeriCares Free Clinics accepts no federal government funding. Rather, they operate with private donations and volunteer services.  With more than 350 volunteers and partnerships like this, AmeriCares Free Clinics is able to provide free, quality health care to the uninsured who might otherwise never receive care or treatments.
